USS Hornet was an aircraft carrier for the US Navy. The Hornet was competed in 1941 and took its first sail during the time of Pearl Harbor. It was 873 feet long and weighed 24,580 tons. Its first battle was to attack Japan. The Hornet was led by Colonel James Doolittle to make Japan pay for the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was 800 miles away from Japan when it was detected by the Japanize Navy. 16 B-25 bombers flew off of the Hornet. The Hornet then competed in the Battle of Midway were is was sunk by Japanese aircraft.
Japan
The Battleship Yamato was the biggest battleship of history from Japan with its sister ship the Musashi. Yamato weighed 65,000 tons with 18.1 inch guns that could shoot 26-24 miles depending on pound shells moving 30 miles per hour. Japans Navy thought that Yamato would carry them into winning the Pacific Ocean control. The US attacked the Yamato in March of 1945 by aircraft but didn’t sink it, little damage was done. After the attack it was assigned to a special attack the Ten-Go operation. The Ten-Go was a suicide mission when it sailed into tem American ships on April 7th 1945 Yamato Battleship sunk by U.S. Navy.
Britain
HMS Prince of Wales was a battleship of the British Navy in WWII. Prince of Wales was first launched on May 3rd, 1939. The battleship fought two German ships in the Battle of Denmark Strait. Prince of Wales sunk the Hood and it hit the Bismarck three times right on. The ship carried Winston Churchill to his secret meeting with Franklin D. Roosevelt. After Churchills return it was sent to the Mediterranean to fight many different battles until September 27th were it was shot by attack planes and retuned home. HMS Prince of Wales was shot down December 10th 1941 by G3M2 Nell and G4M1 Betty.
Germany Japan
Battleship Bismarck was considered to be one of most powerful warships in the world during the time of WWII. Bismarck was created and completed by Germany in 1941. Bismarck was 41,700 tons and 823 feet long. Its first battle was May 23rd of 1940 against the British Navy when John Tovey the Navy commander spotted Bismarck’s position in Norway. Tovey sent every warship that he had available to meet and take down the Bismarck. The Bismarck took out the Hood first with its fifteen inch guns killing all but three men aboard the Hoods 1,421 crew. Soon after the Bismarck was damaged by the Prince of Wales Battle ship in the fuel tank, an oil leak, resulting in not being able to go full speed. When trying to fee Bismarck was attacked by nine torpedoes. On May 26th the battleship Bismarck sank killing all of its crew but 110 people.
