Odette SansomOdette Sansom was born on the 28th of April 1912 in Amiens, France. Odette grew up with her dad apart of the French Army soon killed in WWI. Later in life Odette had three children in London when she married Roy Sansom in 1931. Before Odette moved with Roy, Roy worked as a hotel worker. Odette became a part of the Special Operations Executive in 1940 when she made contact with the Free French forces based in London. In 1941 she rode on a boat with Churchill to establish a new circuit in Burgundy. Later in April of 1943 she was arrested with Churchill by Hugo Bleicher. To get a better treatment in prison they claimed to be husband and wife, it didn’t help. Odette was severally tortured. One of the things that the Prison of Paris did was ripped her toenails off. Odette was awarded the George Cross for bravery through all of this. She later did marry Churchill but the marriage soon ended in 1965. Odette died on March 13th of 1995 at Walton-on-Thames. MC |
